Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island known as West Island. The West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar with its meaning. Many people believe that it is an island west of Montreal, but the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel's hometown is often referenced, however her brief visit to the West Island wasn't. Brugel grew on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. She aspired to be a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew all of her dancing partners. The article she wrote about her experience revealed published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. Once I was bigger than the size of my male companion, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In the case of Brugel it was the guidance from her drama teacher in high school who pushed her to the path she wanted. One of her teachers suggested she try out for a school play. She was able to audition and be cast in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. The most well-known role she played was the one of Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian part of the cast for Season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
