Bernadette. Peters, born Bernadette A. Lazzara, born in Ozone Park Queens New York 28 February 1948 is a songwriter/singer and an author of children's books. Through her career, which spans more than five decades, she has appeared in musical theatre movies and television and has also performed in solo concerts and recordings. She has been nominated for seven Tony Awards and won two, as well as 8 Drama Desk Awards. Four of the Broadway casting albums in which she's starred were awarded Grammy Awards. Peters initially appeared on stage in her early years, then as an actor of her teens in the 1960s and in film and TV in the 1970s. Her work was widely praised for her early work and for appearances on The Muppet Show The Carol Burnett Show as well as in various TV shows and also for her role in movies like Silent Movie The Jerk Pennies from Heaven and Annie. She returned to Broadway in the 1980s, which was when she became the most famous Broadway performer for the following thirty years. Peters has released a number of singles in addition to several casts albums and performs regularly in solo concert acts. Peters has also continued to appear in films and on television and has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards being awarded at least once.
